Served as a Governor at Eastwood Comprehensive School for at least for over 15 years, latterly as Vice Chair.
Served as a Chair of pupils committee and discipline committee supporting the welfare of children in regular hearings with parents.
Ran the Lower School library on a voluntary basis whilst the school was very stretched and under funded.
Helped supervise examinations and appoint staff.
At Brookhill Leys Junior School she took on the position of Chair of Governors at a time of great stress overseeing amalgamation of infant and junior schools.
Ran Venture Scouts.
Supported literacy learning of her grand children involving certificated courses.
This lady has been described as a very approachable and helpful person who clearly has made an impressive contribution to the development of tomorrow’s community over many, many years.

This lady’s contribution has been principally given to the community’s Guides and Brownies movement and for some 30 years has helped in the development and organization of that most worthwhile young people’s organization. She started the Baden Powell Scouts Group in Eastwood, organized holidays, days out for the youngsters and fund raising events. Her work has already been recognized by the award of the Medal of Merit from the Scouts Association. This lady has now retired but her nominators rightly believe she deserves a public acknowledgment for all the hard work she has done for the youth of Eastwood.
Alison Smith
This lady’s contribution has been as a volunteer to the St John Ambulance Division, Eastwood for over 30 years. Her mission has been well described by her supporters which I will quote in full. ‘This lady is a Superintendent of Moorgreen Nursing Division, St John’s Ambulance. She has been a volunteer for over 30 years and is a valuable member to the group. Her mission is to encourage personal development for people of all ages through training and by membership of our organization. She has given many many hours to the local community of Eastwood and surrounding areas over the years this lady’s voluntary duties include school fund raising days and football matches, Moorgreen County Show and many many more. In 1998 this lady was invited to an investiture held in London where she received the Queen’s Sanction for appointment as a ‘Serving Sister’ of the St John’s Ambulance Brigade’.
This lady deserves the applause of the Eastwood community.

This lady began training to be a volunteer for the Citizens Advice Bureau in 1974. She helped with all the setting up of the administrative procedures prior to its opening in 1974 and after a few years she became deputy manager and training officer for new volunteers in order to prepare them for a future with the Bureaux. Her contribution in managing and developing this most important voluntary community organization over 29 years up to her retirement in 2003 has been considerable. As a result of her work many people have been helped in a very wide variety of ways. In addition to her work with the Citizens’ Advice Bureau this lady also served as a School Governor for many years and managed a play group at her local church.

This lady’s contribution has been primarily in raising funds and organizing support for worthy causes over many years. She has worked extremely hard raising funds for Cancer Research, Age Concern for a Donkey Sanctuary and many many more causes. She spends all her spare time in these pursuits as well as working in a full time job. This lady has not enjoyed good heath but has found the strength, determination and character to carry on with her work. More recently she has organized a petition against a particular medical service withdrawal.
The lady who quite clearly cares for others in her local community.
